The First Week

The Killing Fields...its very hard to believe at this very sight while Jan and I attended High School in Palisade, Colorado the people who's remains are displayed in this memorial we're being killed by the millions.  God have mercy on the souls of man.

It's very hard to see an World Olympic Event being held here but it was!

Making friends at one of the places we stayed during our visit in Phnom Penh.

Darrel use to negotiate real estate deals now he needs Jan to rescue him from his negotiations for a good deal with a local Tuk Tuk driver.

All teams are waiting at the bus station to go to their different locations in Cambodia.

oh oh....eating from a street vendor....

Shanty Town... a village within a village ...

See the home at the top?  These people live in poverty at the feet of the others.  The Lord morns for His people...

Outreach To Cambodia

The four Cambodia Outreach Teams consist of thirty seven people, twenty four adults and thirteen children.  Wow!! What a flight!  We started out in Kona, Hawaii with our first leg of the flight being to Honolulu, Hawaii.  Then to Tokyo, Japan, then to Taipei, Taiwan China, then to Bangkok, Thailand then to Phnom Penh, Cambodia.  Approximately, thirty six hours, across the date line and a day earlier door step to door step.

One Team is going to Siem Reap, Cambodia another team is going to Kompong Thom, Cambodia and another team is staying in Phnom Penh, Cambodia with the fourth team Jan and Darrel traveling between each.

Phnom Penh, the capitol of Cambodia.  It is a very busy city with motorcycles, bicycles, tuk tuks and autos vying for space in the inner streets.

Settling In at the University of Nations, Kailua-Kona, HI

God is Good!  God is Awesome! God is really...really...really Good!!!  Jan and I have been given this incredible opportunity to be feed more and more and to give out more and more of His Love and Glory to extend His Kingdom!

We are honored to accept our leader's, Bob and Carolyn Hopkins (pictured here next to us), invitation to Staff the Fall CrossRoads Discipleship Training School here on the campus of the University of Nations, Kona, HI.

Ahn-yung-hah-say-yo!  (Hello! in Korean . . . . . We say that often around here with many wonderful Korean students at U of N)
from Jan and Darrel!

YEA!
We are settling into the routine here at the University of the Nations in Kona.  Serving here on staff for the Crossroads DTS we find challenging and, at the same time, very rewarding.

SNAPSHOP!
The “Fall 2010 Crossroads Class” consists of 50 students, 40 children and 13 staff members.  Our students come from USA, Canada, England, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Korea and China.  Students range in age from 25 to 63 and the children from 12 months to 16 years.  We have 12 families with children, 5 couples, 11 single women, and 5 single men.

DUTIES!
During the day, the children attend the “Foundations School” here on campus which is designed just for DTS students’ children.  The adults meet for class in the mornings for lecture sessions with a different speaker each week.  In the afternoons, Darrel and I lead small groups, meet with students one to one and also lead outreach preparation classes.  Our duties also include grading students’ journals, grading book reports, CDTS School duty (Jan-Hospitality and Darrel-Transportation) U of N Leadership training, Prayer sessions, University work duty (Jan-Recycle Store, Darrel-Security) and planning & preparation for foreign country outreach.

WHEW!!!
When Jesus said the laborers are few, He was right!  We are all working hard to keep up, doing our very best, and trusting God to send more laborers for the many needs in our world.

PRAY!

  • Health and energy for both of us.
  • Wisdom and understanding in working with students of many ages and cultures.
  • Clear direction in planning for our two month foreign outreach.  More about that soon :-)

TAKE A LIVELY ONLINE CAMPUS TOUR!  FUN!!!

WAYA Island, Fiji

Excitement, Anticipation, the day we arrived at the Island of Waya, Fiji.

 Landing on the beach!!

Just down the beach...

Jan and the Pastor's Children....

 Sharing with village members....

Kasawa is the main staple for Fiji.  It is easy to grow, harvest and plant.  It grows anywhere, on mountain slopes and even in the jungle!
 Dinner for the village!

Kids at play during a break from School.

Jan got sick and we needed to get her to the hospital on the mainland of Fiji.  There was a miracle that day.....notice the smooth calm waters of the South Pacific!

Jan got better and we came back to Waya and prayed over this ancient Burre, known as the King's Compound.

In the middle of the village!

This is how the grass mattes get made!

Jan just simply loves the native burres'   They are efficient, quick and inexpensive to build.  Unfortunately, they do not weather the hurricanes well.

The day we went back to Latoka.

Rest and Relaxation on our own Island for a Day!

Rewards from the Lord!
Back in the classroom.  Notice the instructor.  His name is Baxter Kruger, the author of the Shack Revisited.

Ministries in Latoka, Fiji

Fijians are happy people!  They love their families, heritage, culture and God!!  This is a mixture of PTC Staff and Students outside the PTC Base house.

Darrel is wearing the pocket sulu outfit to be worn for semi-formal to formal occasions.  Jan is wearing the sulu chamba for similar occasions.  Both are traditional outfits commonly worn by Fijians to this day.

This simple gathering of Fijians turned out to be one of the semi-formal occasions to which we both wore our traditional outfits.  We  gave a word from the Lord and worshiped.

"Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."  Matthew 19:14.

Wati became a very special friend.  Wati was strengthened in the Lord and was bold in evangelizing the surrounding Indian and Fijian villages.  Wati fasted and prayed for God to give her the Hindu language so she could share His good news with the Indians in her village area.  The Lord gave her the Hindu language and now she is a mighty witness for His Glory.  The Church Wati attends is the blue building in the background of this photo.

This is a typical Indian home in the nearby area where Wati, Jan and Darrel did visitation ministry.

This Indian lady was watching over her eight goats while we shared the Lord and prayed with her.

Bath time!!

This Indian family was so gracious to invite us into their home.  We met them at a local Crusade where we got to pray with them.  They served us a fabulous curry, kasava & roti meal.
This Indian couple Darrel met at a carnival.  He prayed for the woman's cousin who has not heard out of his right ear since birth.  The Lord healed him instantly and he could hear out of his right ear for the first time.   This Indian lady was so moved she invited Darrel and Jan to her home as shown behind them in this picture.  She asked us to pray for her and her husband because they have not been able to have children since their marriage a few years ago.  We must go back so we can meet the children the Lord is giving them!!
Jan and several of the team members were very busy each day conducting Kids Club in three different locations of Latoka.  Some days as many as thirty kids would show up!!
